This quote is from an excellent article on Rootspeak,"Just as establishment types are at last willing to go on record to issue Peak Oil warnings, the advance guard of Peak Oil propagandists once considered tin-foil-hat theorists have become bleakly pessimistic about the world’s ability to gingerly transition to a post-carbon economy. If we had any sense as a species (and that is doubtful at the moment) we would understand the Global Financial Crisis to be the harbinger of an insolvent Global Energy Bank and the end of the Cheap Oil Bubble that fueled industrial growth beginning with the real take-off in fossil fuel driven industrial and agricultural production after Word War II.

As this Oil Bubble deflates, so will credit, wealth and global economic production, because fossil fuels multiply human productivity by several orders of magnitude like no other resource. The reversal of the oil productivity dividend will be unrelenting and violent, as we compete on the most basic level for scarce resources on an individual and group level. We are distracted by fixing Wall Street and its shenanigans while time runs short for planning an orderly transition to a post-carbon economy. Like some parody of a Versailles court ritual, the media and our political elite at moments present the fraudulent meme of optimism that reassures numb plebes that alternative energy technologies will deliver us to a rosy post-carbon society with little sacrifice. The stark reality is that the optimistic scenario is a delusion or a lie. If this sounds unbelievable, just recall the whodaknowdit ducking and denial by the elites in charge following the internet bubble and repeated almost the next day for the housing bubble." http://rootspeak.org/2010/06/peak-oil-peak-people-the-pique-of-human-folly/
