The BP Gulf disaster is starting to create predictions of epic "DISASTER MOVIE" proportions. Here's a quote from a very disturbing article,"  evidence is mounting that something frightening is happening deep under the waters of the Gulf of Mexico—something far worse than the BP oil gusher."

I found quite a bit of recent information but I haven't been able to find anything that goes back prior to the spill. It was either not made public or something. I know the methane is the major reason for the blow out. This is interesting.

I was looking in the Discovery Channel Mega Disasters series they did an episode on the science behind this. You may want to take a look and see if you can find a link to it.

If there is actually a mega deposit of methane going to be released, it doesn't have to do so explosively to create the level of devastation being discussed. Because methane is orders of magnitude more effective at radiative forcing than carbon dioxide, a material release could speed up warming dramatically.

You could count in months the amount of time it takes to melt enough of the landed ice on Greenland and West Antarctica to raise the sea level enough to take out coastal areas all over the world. By the time half of the ice from those two locations slips into the water, the oceans will have risen 20 feet. Talk about worrying about the wrong thing - wouldn't it be ironic if when the Big One hits California it's already underwater?

I've read a few articles with views similar to your own.
